Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. Waist Beading with Intention and Adornment with Kennya

Waist Beading is an old African tradition of adorning a woman's sensuality, sexuality, body image, setting intentions and celebrating so many milestones in one’s life.

In this workshop, I am honored to guide you as you create and bead a beautiful adornment intertwined with intentional energy of colored beads and precious stones. A few of the many colors you have to choose from are... Blue brings forth peace and tranquility, as Red ignites courage and passion...and Orange increases energy and creativity. A bead’s color is a magical element which symbolizes emotion and connection to events and feelings in your life. As these waist beads are your personal medicine, they are meant to be tied around your Root Chakra region, falling off on their own. I am looking forward to sharing this medicine with you and creating beautiful adornments.

Kennya Thornburg Ruffin: I am a creative and spirited woman who wants to share traditions and rituals of positive and loving self-care that I have experienced and learned from my mothers, grandmothers, sister-friends and other powerful and loving women on my journey so far.
